01Purpose

A week to slow the breath, return to the body.

Welcome to Tanzania — a quiet country built for grounding. This retreat was shaped for Labfresh as a deliberate counterpoint to the velocity of modern work: a week to slow the breath, return to the body, and remember that attention is a finite, sacred resource. Two carefully chosen lodges, one valley, and the long, uncluttered horizons of the Rift become the backdrop for an inner transformation guided by the wild.

02Outcomes

What the journey leaves behind.

i.

Grounding

Time in nature — forest bathing, walking, breath — to support an inner transformational journey in the wild.

ii.

Reflection

Sundowners, journaling, and guided pauses to take in the first moments of the journey and what they reveal.

iii.

Integration

A closing sequence at Rhotia to consolidate, integrate, and carry the experience home with intention.

03Facilitators

Designed by hand, by a small team.

Kaer

Bespoke journey design & facilitation

Kaer designs intimate retreats that pair the architecture of the body with the architecture of place. Each program is built by hand, by a small team that travels with you.

Kufanya

Tanzania ground partner

Kufanya curates Tanzania's wildest, most considered lodges and guides — a quiet network built on twenty years of relationships and deep regard for the land.

04Program

Seven days, one valley, long horizons.

  1. Arrival, fireside — Arusha · Kili Villas
    01
    13 FebruaryArusha · Kili Villas

    Arrival, fireside

    Afternoon

    Private transfer from JRO

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International, private drivers meet the group and travel quietly into the foothills toward Arusha.

    Evening

    Welcome around the fireplace

Kili Villas — a small family-style lodge tucked into a quiet garden close to Arusha — receives the group with light snacks around the fire. A gentle beginning, by design.

  2. Forest bathing & Meru crater — Arusha National Park
    02
    14 FebruaryArusha National Park

    Forest bathing & Meru crater

    Morning

    Guided meditation in nature

Transfer to Arusha National Park for a day of forest bathing. A Kaer facilitator opens the session beneath ancient fig and yellowwood.

    Midday

    Meru crater hike & picnic

A scenic drive ascends through Mount Meru's vegetation zones to the crater rim — heath, moorland, waterfalls, the dormant ash cone. Sunbirds and red-fronted parrots through the wildflowers; lunch laid in a natural amphitheatre.

    Evening

    Return to Kili Villas

A long, slow sundowner back at the lodge. Time to reflect on the first moments of the journey.

  3. Movement to the valley — Kili Villas → Rhotia Valley
    03
15 FebruaryKili Villas → Rhotia Valley

    Movement to the valley

    Morning

    Yoga, meditation, reflection

A recommended Kaer-led practice on the lawns of Kili Villa before the road. Breath, body, intention.

    Afternoon

Transfer to Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge

Safari vehicles carry the group west, climbing toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the valley that holds Rhotia.

    Evening

    Sundowner & dinner

Arrival in the golden hour. A long sundowner on the deck, dinner under canvas.

  4. All of the senses — Mto wa Mbu · Lake Manyara
    04
16 FebruaryMto wa Mbu · Lake Manyara

    All of the senses

    Morning

    Forest hike, Mto wa Mbu

Descend into the Great Rift Valley and walk through a groundwater forest of streams and small waterfalls. Bushbuck, monkeys, the soft noise of birds.

    Afternoon

    Game drive — Lake Manyara

A park celebrated for ever-changing landscape: forest, plains, soda lake. Large elephant herds, tree-climbing lions, hippos, giraffe, buffalo, and — seasonally — thousands of flamingos along the shore.

  5. An older way of life — Lake Eyasi
    05
    17 FebruaryLake Eyasi

    An older way of life

    Morning

    Hadzabe community visit

An early breakfast then on to Lake Eyasi, home to one of the last hunter-gatherer peoples in East Africa. A rare, careful exchange — hunting techniques, customs, a way of living that has barely changed.

    Afternoon

    Lakeside meditation

A quiet session on the shores of Eyasi. Mindfulness, reflection, or simply the wind across the water.

  6. Into the caldera — Ngorongoro Crater
    06
    18 FebruaryNgorongoro Crater

    Into the caldera

    Morning

    Transfer to the Conservation Area

A short transfer brings the group to the rim of one of Africa's most iconic landscapes — a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the largest intact volcanic calderas on earth.

    Day

    Game drive — Ngorongoro Crater

The crater floor holds the Big Five and a vast diversity of wildlife in a single immense bowl. Time to drive slowly, to look, to be silent.

    Evening

    Return to Rhotia

Back to camp for the final night of the retreat.

  7. Integration & departure — Rhotia → JRO
    07
    19 FebruaryRhotia → JRO

    Integration & departure

    Morning

    Closing circle

Kaer guides a final session in the bush — a quiet opportunity for reflection, and to consolidate the experiences of the journey before they scatter.

    Afternoon

    Lunch & transfer to JRO

Check-out, lunch, and a transfer to Kilimanjaro International in time for international departures. A roadside dinner can be arranged on request.
